Have A Seat

Phew! Finally, finally done with another semester at Duke! I want to talk about this because this semester has been SO different from my past ones. This is the first one where I wasn’t brought tears because of stress from school work and life. I believe I handled this semester a lot better than my other ones. It definitely has to do with the fact that I’m in the right place academically. I finally feel like I care about what I’m learning because it’s applicable to my life and it makes me want to learn even more. #3rdYearSwagg. But yes, it was a roller coaster semester as usual but it did end on a high note. I wasn’t dreading the coming days and I was able to take things one step at a time. I remember so vividly writing about it this time last year and I mentioned I was always flying past things and not living in the moment. It’s crazy how much things change in a year.

I was talking with my girlfriend and we talked about how we neeeed to have a class reunion and how 10 year after high school is a long ass time. Like, think about it! You’d be done with college (assuming you went), you’d have gotten a masters degree or even a PhD or would be finishing med school or whatever. Long story short, it doesn’t sound like a long time but it is! Hopefully I’m not the only one overly keen about knowing we’re my classmates are, who’s doing what and where  *pulls out Social media stalking badge*. It’s really exciting. This is to say, it’s important to make the most of every moment. There’s always room for self-improvement. You guys know I always advocate for learning to love yourself, flaws and all. For one thing, I have a much better idea of what I like and dislike and the path is a lot clearer. Not quite there yet (and I don’t expect to be immediately) but I have this nice gut feeling that I’m in the right direction. Has this semester made you realize anything about yourself? I want to knoww.

I’m happy to be done with this semester and looking forward to the next. I’ll be taking on quite a lot and it’s quite scary BUT I always want to put myself out there. You just never know 🙂 If you’re still writing finals, all the best. You’re almost done. In the mean time, you can take several seats. I hope you like these compilations of chairs made with various African prints! Which is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.
