Party In The Back Crop tops are cool and all but a reverse crop top? Hmm, very interesting concept. I sometimes feel very self conscious showing off my belly button. I don’t know why but I just feel weird. I’ll probably get over it eventually but till then. This ankara top with the space at the back really appeals to me. It’s just the right amount of skin and not too much to make me feel uncomfortable. Plus, these high-rise jeans have to be the best fitting pair I own. It hugs all the right places and it’s just plain comfortable. Amen for comfort in fashion. I’m usually an all back, high bun girl but I’ve been getting very adventurous with my hair styles lately. It’s really exciting and this messy bun is just been everything. I’m currently giving my hair a break and undergoing thorough treatment before I go back to braids. This is probably the longest I’ve gone without braiding my hair so for course, I have to get creative. It hasn’t been as bad. Plus, I’ve used it as an opportunity to really strengthen my natural hair routine. After the longest time, I think I’ve pretty much nailed it. Yay! Anyways, hope you enjoy your weekend and I’ll talk to you in a bitty bit! Outfit details Ankara top: Custom made Jeans: Levi’s Shoes: BCBG Always, Miss LAJA
AfroFaerie Lana del Rey has been giving me genuine life. I have been a fan for the longest time but you know when you stumble upon a gem song and you think; “where have you been my whole life?” When I listened to “West Coast“, I felt like I was floating through some fairytale fantasy. I had heard it before but I just really listened to it. Anyways, it’s on repeat non-stop till my ears fall off. It’s amazing how much music influences my fashion taste. Especially the story I want to tell with my images. When I listen to a song, I immediately conjoure a story in my head with the landscape, scene and even down to what I’m wearing… Of course, it has to include some sort of ankara, haha. But yes, music (and fashion) are great. As for this ankara dress and these shoes? Uhunn, honey! I’m such a (black) shoe girl and I almost psyched myself into picking the black pair instead. I have too many black shoes and I (with a great push from Mummy LAJA) felt I need to add more colors to my wardrobe. So, this happened and I look forward to staying away from black shoes. Wish me luck! Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend and I’ll talk to you in a bit. Crorange Gosh, I’m not even going to explain why I’m wearing orange again. *closes eyes and runs away* This outfit was such a no brainer. I pulled it together so quickly, I was rather shocked. I guess I had gotten so used to battling my clothing on how best to combine them. These two pieces just fit together perfectly. I almost shed some tears of joy, haha. As paradoxical as this sounds, fashion is more fun when it’s simpler and not over-thought. Seemingly “effortless” outfits usually turn out the best. I seriously need to remind myself about this more often. The ankara skirt and orange blouse are bae-sically bae. However, the accessories deserve more attention especially the rings. I have always been a fan of wrist accessories. Rings? Not so much. I’m always aware I have something wrapped around my finger and it bothers me. Plus, they always find their off my fingers. Oopsie. These rings, however, are the most comfortable I’ve worn in a long time. I couldn’t feel a thing and I almost forgot I was wearing them. I was glad to find them still on my fingers when I looked. It’s going to be a picture overload today. I got SO many great shots and I had the hardest time pruning them for this post. Then, I thought, why should I hoard these beautiful photos? Heck, I’ll just throw in everything… Kinda. Half way through the week! Don’t forget to check oout my latest article on CollegeFashionista! Enjoy and I’ll talk to you in a bit. Gold Rush And once again, we’re back to the orange obsession. Happy Wednesday, stunner! I hope you’re having a swell week. I have been waiting the longest time to style this stunning ankara top. Surely, you remember her sister and brother right? The weather has been overly hot and I knew it was time to bring it out of my wardrobe. I went for semi-casual look and kept the trousers and shoes black and basic. My skinny jeans were in fact, rolled up to make them shorter. With the right pair of skinnies (great fitting and length), you can have the best of both worlds; full length and three quarter length. I played around with the green satin material and after much contemplation, I decided it worked best as a belt! I was quite skeptical at first but I’m loving it so far. Another use for those extra long ribbons or print materials you have no idea what to do with. It really gives the look a nice, extra does of color. Speaking of colors, I love, love, love how the jewelry contrasts with the print. It feels so earthy and sunny. Just the way I like it. Plus, since I’ve been obsessing over green and orange lately, it’s about time I brought both colors together. Woop woop! Don’t forget to check out my latest article on College Fashionista here. Dainty Hello and Happy New Month! Here’s a quick and simple outfit I wore a few days back. Despite the super hot summer, I have been enjoying wearing high-cut clothing. Yes, it seems contradictory with the weather but hear me out. I find them really sophisticated and chic. Plus, the short length of my ankara dress balances out the whole ensemble. I actually stole these sandals from my grandma, ha! Cheers to stealing permanently borrowing clothing and accessories from your loved ones! On to other things, I am currently a #StyleGuru for CollegeFashionista and there, I’ll be sharing my personal tips, tricks on style, beauty and fashion trends! So make sure to keep up there and please thumbs up/share the posts if you enjoyed them and found them helpful! Although I’m absolutely not complaining about this weather, the temperatures get really crazy. Stay hydrated, shielded and stylish! I’ll talk to you in a bit. Next Level Last Saturday was my brother’s graduation, yay! He officially finished from Admiral Farragut in Florida *sobs*, so proud of his hairy, bone-head. It was a swell day, we took lots of pictures and had lunch in a lovely restaurant in Lowes Don CeSar. It was soo pretty and the food was yummaayyy! I kept things pretty simple and classy with my outfit in this cut-out, maxi, ankara dress. The lipcolor definitely stole my heart. I’ve been wearing this color non-stop! The next day, we went for a dinner-theatre performance called “If The Shoe Fits”. It’s basically dinner before the show which is pretty neat because food usually isn’t allowed in theaters so that was a first timer. I really liked it. We then headed to Boston to visit his university, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and as much as I’m happy for him, that place is too darn cold! It’s May for crying out loud, geezz. No, thank you. It was a quick trip and I’m currently writing from Oklahoma! Yup, I’ll be spending a good part of my summer here and won’t be going back to Nigeria. Wahh, first time I haven’t been back home during summer. Definitely a weird feeling but I’ll survive. I’m pretty excited actually. There’s been a lot of traveling this past week so things went by pretty quickly so I’m glad to be back in settled down in one place. Let’s gooo! I hope you enjoy your week and I’ll talk to you in a bit! Secrets Secrets. Because we all have them. This is just a fun project where I tied a head wrap and decided to try a different type of photography. I won’t bore you with all the geeky details, but I basically did the opposite of what I normally do so yes, the pictures are purposely made to be quite darker than usual. I hope you like them. *Flashes smiles* I’m currently in Florida for my brother’s graduation! Woop woop! A big shout out to my bro on successfully completing high school! They grow up so fast *sobs* Keep up with the rest of the pictures on my Tumblr and/or LAJAgram (miss_laja) Have a great weekend and I’ll talk to you in a bit! Always, Miss LAJA
Take Me Home All alone, There it sat, Far away from home, Till a lone ranger asked, “What is that?” As if she knew, She took the cue, And picked it up like it were new, Then began the search for some green hues. Don’t worry, my love we’re leaving this tiresome dome, Going to a place where you won’t be alone, There’ll be no more tears or long moans, Hold on, we’ll get there soon, were not far away from home. Contrary to the pictures, it was super windy and my hair literally fell apart… Yup, I need to use more pins next time. I was contemplating just leaving the poem and excluding my voice from this piece but I couldn’t bring myself to it because I really like blabbing to you guys about… Well, stuff. Never thought I was a poem person but I found myself writing and I thought, wow, this is really cool so I’ll go with it as opposed to outright explaining the story. Cheers to switching things up, baby! *Sigh* The things you learn about yourself everyday. I hope you enjoy this mini story and poetry of mine, I had a lot of fun doing it. Evergreene Hello, stunner! After a break from Miss LAJA due to finals and my body quite frankly failing me, I’m happy to say I’m back! Yayy! After my last exam and packing up, I slept for 24 hours. Nope, I’m not even kidding. I was sleeping away semester stress and restoring my body cause before now, it wasn’t in the best of states. Anyhoo, I’m sooo happy it’s summer! Wahhh! I cannot get enough of this warmth consistently seeping under my skin and just seeing the sunrise and set. It fills me with soo much joy beyond words and motivates me to want to blog my life away. So ready for summer… Well almost ready, my goal is to consistently groom and keep my brows to maximum fleekness. I know, I know, I keep saying it but I really want to make a better effort this time. For real. On to my outfit, I am in love with this top. It’s quite a unique piece in my wardrobe and I love how there’s the little peek of skin on the torso as opposed to the typical parts. I had it sewn so I treasure it as much as my ankara pieces, hehe. Anyways, there’s a lot of color blocking going on here and I decided to pair it with these ankara shorts inspired by earthy, neutral colors. Of course, I added a pop of red. Yup, my love for that colour is far from over. Expect to see a lot more bright and colour blocking goodness on here! I’m super excited to brainstorm and bring to life new projects! With summer in full swing, I can’t say time will be an issue so ride along with me!! For those of you still having finals, all the best on yours and have a stunning weekend!
